The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find a clamor for the addition fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories successfully include many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated in any category that year
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
